Managing the challenges of data replication

The S2IX platform combines advanced technologies, including the GeoReplicator from iOra, to ensure data superiority across challenging environments

The rate that technology is advancing means that for firms to retain a competitive advantage in an increasingly globalised marketplace they must be ahead of the curve, rather than behind it. Data replication is the process of storing and maintaining data copies across multiple machines and parties. The data is stored in a cloud storage system through different data nodes, so that when users access data on a specific node it accesses a replication of the data present on a nearby node which improves data availability. Data replication creates simultaneous updates across numerous systems which helps to increase scalability however updates are general reliant on the connectivity of the device at the time. For firms that operate in remote, challenging, or disadvantaged areas this connectivity issue is a core concern for performance and consistency.

The implication of data replication is key to both scalability and fault-tolerance, which assists with elasticity however traditionally replication has come at a risk to either performance or consistency with most cases being a trade-off between the two.

Myriad Technologies, after more than a decade of experience in deploying secure collaboration solutions, recognised the solution needed and designed the virtualised platform to specifically focus on secure information exchange in deployed scenarios through single, joint and coalition force missions sustained by architecture that is able to operate in the most challenging environments in the world.

S2IX approaches the challenges commonly encountered within global ICT programs using a unique combination of products and program delivery to solve the underlying technical and business challenges, ultimately delivering core support functions and capability to multiple systems. To solve communication issues, Myriad Technologies relied on experience gained working with the mining, oil and gas industries delivering integrated operations platforms into remote locations.

The techniques employed with these customers and the Australian Defence Force utilised a specific architecture approach to the applications, and a replication tool called iOra GeoReplicator. The data specific capability is the ability to distribute and exchange this data between environments regardless of the communications bearer or network. The replication tooling tightly integrated into S2IX operates across any bearer including denied, degraded, intermittent and limited networks. iOra is the leading global provider of the portal and file-based compression and replication technology for organizations that need to operate in the most demanding environments.

iOra technology enables an intelligent, competent, and transparent data exchange that is consistent and guaranteed, irrespective of location or network connection. Trusted by Governments, corporates, military and global organizations, iOra technology has been selected for its proven capabilities in hostile and remote environments.  Tightly integrated into the S2IX platform, the iOra capabilities work in concert with the security and automation features to deliver federated operations across your global workforce.

The highly anticipated S2IX 6.1 is due to be released in early October and contains a host of new and revamped features to ensure that the end-user is continually enabled by the technology, to be at their most efficient. Recent changes to the iOra Geo-Replicator replication platform include the provision of the iOra class library that supports the more complete integration of iOra replication and management technology as an embedded service for a larger application or process.

“The latest release of iOra allows S2IX 6.1 to continue to expand and grow as a product to truly give us reach into data all the way out to the tactical edge”

- Nicholas Forbes, Managing Director of Myriad Technologies

Planned for Q4 2021 iOra will introduce the new file system replication capability that has been built on the updated and highly extensible iOra replication platform extension architecture. The new file system replication option will enable true bi-directional cross-domain replication between source and target folders.

By leveraging a COTS / MOTS platform through a raise and sustain activity with no-code configuration, rather than a design, build, test and refactor approach, S2IX offers a dramatically lower risk and cost profile of implementing and adopting the solution.
